You can look, but you better not touch

Since the weather here is finally catching up to the calendar season-wise, it truly feels like Spring. and Spring means flowers and flowers mean Poison Ivy

My personal favorite Poison Ivy is Uma Thurman from the movie Batman & Robin.
I love love love her costume based on the original design. Just look at it.

Watching the movie, I thought the leaves were covered in glitter, but these pictures show that they are all individually beaded (as are the leaves on the sleeves). It's the kind of thing that must have been a pain in the ass to do, but the results are really remarkable.

The vine and leaf detail on the tights was another thing I noticed for the first time in this pic.
I  really appreciate when there is that much attention to detail in the costuming, especially in an adaptation.

Boston Comic Con - Sunday

Sorry, getting pics from my mum is a total pain and takes more time than I ever think it will.

Anyways, here's my Blue Beetle inspired costume from BCC:

Next project is a booster gold dress (which I've cut out all the pieces of), then finally finishing my Riddler costume (should the question marks be appliques, sequins, or rhinestones? so many choices >v<), and then a Jamie Rayes Blue Beetle dress (because you can never get too much Blue Beetle and I wanna make his cool backpack).

Boston Comic Con - Saturday

I'm wicked excited because I got My first issues of Young Avengers and Daredevil signed by Jim Cheung and Paolo Rivera respectively. (squee >u<)

Anyways, I wore my completed Robin costume:
Well, off to sew a Booster Gold dress for Sarah for tomorrow.

Katniss hair

After the Hunger Games movie came out, I found a super easy tutorial on youtube for Katniss' hairstyle from the reaping.
Of course I'm not as cute as the girl in the video or Jennifer Lawrence, but I tried my hand at this hairstyle myself.

Let me just say, it is wicked hard to french braid your own hair.

Day two of sewing

Since I lost my elastic and yellow fabric (ORZ) I can't finish my Robin costume yet.
Therefore today I'm trying to work on my Blue Beetle jumper.
Here's the jumper in progress
and a closeup of the in-progress applique and reference
After the applique I'll be making an over skirt. If I finish all that early-ish, I'll probably go out fabric shopping (to replace the missing robin pieces) and then to the dollar store to look at toy guns.

Sewing for Boston Comic Con

Since I don't have classes this week, I've gotten a chance to do more sewing for this weekend.

First, I decided to give myself some motivation for sewing, so I made a green lantern pin cushion.

Then, I cut out all the pieces for my Robin costume:
And I'm currently half way through construction, so I think I'll be able to finish it all today or tomorrow. The original plan for this costume was that I could be fem!90s!superboy and my friend Sarah could use this to be fem!robin, but I'm getting a little selfish, so I might just wear both on different days.

90s Superboy-girl-whatever

The only problem with being a gender-bent Superboy is then people are always like "Are you supergirl?" and the answer is "n- well, kinda but not really."
I had hoop earrings to wear, but then I forgot OTL

ah, now that I see a picture, it looks silly, but I had lots of fun at PAX East on Sunday in this getup.

Sewing Hiatus

So unlike Ted Kord here, I don't sew naked, but you pretty much get the gist of what's going on.
And I guess this is a hint to my next sewing project.
